There is a way of looking at our mental health in the present which suggests this is due to Trauma in Childhood, including pre-natal.
It makes sense that Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) can affect us as adults.
These experiences may often not even be in our awareness
There can be other factors which help or hinder the impact of this, and we call these resilience factors.
Put simply when we are under stress in our day to day lives we react with a Fight, Flight, Freeze or Fawn response.
This can be anything from Anger Issues, Anxiety, Depression, Disassociation, Co-dependancy, Obesity, Chronic Pain, addiction and many other mental health conditions.
We can when under stress become disconnected from the different parts of ourselves, and disconnected with the world and nature.
We can in effect lose our sense self.
Therapy can offer us a way to reconnect. This does not mean we have to go back and retell our trauma, we can just as easily stay with the emotions, and do it slowly.
